AWL 47-001 ‘CITY OF LONDON’ launched at 1200 hrs to go to the aid of a 30-foot angling boat with 3 male persons on board, disabled, having lost their rudder, in a position N 50° 34.40 W 000° 42.76 approximately 12 miles south-southeast of the station.
The ‘CITY OF LONDON’ arrived on scene at 1243 hrs and the 2nd Coxswain was put aboard to connect the tow. Towing commenced at 1300 hrs and a course was set for a point 1.5 miles southwest of Chichester Harbour where we were to rendezvous with Portsmouth Lifeboat who were going to continue towing the casualty into Southsea Marina. This was achieved at approximately 1450 hrs at which point the ‘CITY OF LONDON’ was released to return to station.
Unable to rehouse until 1800 hrs due to tidal conditions the ‘CITY OF LONDON’ was declared ready for service at 1830 hrs.
