72-Foot Gentleman's Motor Yacht with Engine Failure

AWL 47-001 ‘CITY OF LONDON’ launched at 2007 hrs to go to the aid of a 72-foot gentleman’s motor yacht with one male person on board. Both engines had failed and the casualty was drifting just seaward of the Chichester Harbour bar beacon.

Shortly after the ‘CITY OF LONDON’ had launched the casualty managed to restart one engine and reported he was making slow progress into Chichester Harbour. The ‘CITY OF LONDON’ was asked to continue proceeding in case further problems developed. As the ‘CITY OF LONDON’ arrived at the entrance to the harbour the casualty reported that he was in safe water and about to anchor. At this point the ‘CITY OF LONDON’ was released to return to station, arriving back at 2125 hrs and rehousing straight away. Ready for service at 2200 hrs.
