ILB D533 ‘PETER CORNISH’ launched at 1445 hrs to assist two jet ski˘s reported to be in difficulties approximately one mile south of Pagham Harbour.
At approximately 1510 hrs the two jet ski˘s were discovered. The riders were safe and well but suffering from the effects of the cold sea temperature. It would appear that one of the jet ski˘s had capsized and its engine was flooded with seawater. The accompanying rider tried towing his friend back to Bognor and also capsized, flooding his engine as well. The two riders were brought aboard the ‘PETER CORNISH’ and protected from the elements. A towline was attached to the two jet ski˘s, which were then towed back to the East Beach launching ramp at Selsey. The casualties and their craft were handed over to Selsey Auxiliary Coastguards who assisted them with their recovery.
The ‘PETER CORNISH’ was released at 1605 hrs to return to station, recovered at 1615 hrs and was ready for service at 1635 hrs.
