‘CITY OF LONDON’ launched at 1935 hrs to go to the assistance of a 32-foot yacht ‘Moses’ with two male persons on board which had fouled its rudder in fishing gear and was disabled.
The ‘CITY OF LONDON’ arrived on scene in a position approximately one mile southwest of the Looe Channel buoys at 1955 hrs. The ‘CITY OF LONDON’ manoeuvred alongside the casualty and transferred the 2nd Coxswain aboard along with a grapnel and long handled cutting tool.
At 2004 hrs the offending fishing gear had been cut free from the yacht. After carrying out trials to make sure no damage had been sustained to the vessel’s steering gear the 2nd Coxswain was recovered back on to the ‘CITY OF LONDON’ at 2017 hrs. With the ‘Moses’ able to continue her passage unaided the ‘CITY OF LONDON’ was released at this time to return to station, arriving back at 2035 hrs and rehousing straight away. The ‘CITY OF LONDON’ was ready for service at 2050 hrs.
