ILB D464 ‘THE WREN’ launched at 1938 hrs to assist the 25-foot powerboat ‘Majig’ with one male person on board, broken down and at anchor approximately half a mile offshore from the Coastguard Station at West Street, Selsey.
The casualty had earlier struck the seabed with the propeller of his main engine and had been continuing his passage to Langstone Harbour using an auxiliary engine. This had also now broken down rendering the vessel powerless.
Crewman Robert Archibald was put on board the ‘Majig’ to assist the owner in retrieving the anchor and attaching a towline. Once this was done the casualty was towed back to the Lifeboat Station and secured on the Lifeboat moorings to await repairs. The owner was ferried ashore intending to return with an engineer to effect repairs.
CREW: Richard Wiseman (Helmsman), Robert Archibald, Will Moir.
